Role Summary The engineer owns debugging and failure analysis for the vehicle data collection program on Mercedes-Benz vans. Working largely remotely, the role diagnoses issues at vehicle and system level, verifies the data-logging hardware chain, and drives resolution while leading and guiding the team. Key Responsibilities • Debug issues and analyze failure reports remotely across the data collection setup • Diagnose problems at vehicle-level and system-level, tracing faults to root cause • Inspect and verify hardware integrity check for loose harness connections, sensors, and other components involved in the collection chain • Use oscilloscope and multimeter to validate signals, power, and connectivity • Develop Python automation for testing, log analysis, and repetitive diagnostic tasks • Take ownership of open issues through to closure • Lead and guide the team, coordinating debugging efforts and communicating status • Travel to sites/vehicles as needed for on-ground diagnosis Required Skills & Qualifications • Strong Linux and shell scripting • Python scripting for automation • Solid automotive systems knowledge • Hands-on with oscilloscope and multimeter for hardware debugging • Ability to reason at vehicle/system level during fault isolation • Ownership mindset and proven team leadership • Strong communication skills • Willingness to travel as required • Bachelor’s in computers/ ECE / EEE / or equivalent • 4+ years of relevant experience Preferred / Nice-to-Have • Experience with data-logging tools / sensor rigs (camera, radar, lidar, GNSS/IMU) • CAN / automotive bus experience. e.g. CANoe/CANalyzer • Exposure to ADAS/AD data collection • ASPICE / ISO 26262 awareness
