Job Overview:

As Program Specialist Government you will be instrumental in driving the successful implementation of Mercedes-Benz NA’s newly established Government and Defense business team. You will be the first member of the team supporting the Head of Business Development Government & Defense, with primary responsibility for navigating the Mercedes-Benz corporate structure, interfacing with Mercedes-Benz Strategy North America, the G-Class Team in and other corporate program management functions. You will manage the cadence of meetings and conducting program reviews, keep multiple parallel workstreams on time and on track for delivery. You will monitor progress against defined KPIs, conduct in-depth variance analyses, and develop targeted action plans. Your exceptional communication skills and collaborative approach will be critical in working closely with diverse internal stakeholders across Mercedes-Benz, requiring you to be both a proactive challenger and a supportive partner. The business team's tooling ecosystem and operating processes are still being built out, including AI-enabled productivity and capture-intelligence platforms (curiosity about how AI tools can support the work, and willingness to help shape the tech stack as it matures, is valued). Customer-facing business development will be led by the Head of BD.

Responsibilities

•        Monitor the execution of the defined U.S. Government and Defense business team strategy and strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with overall objectives.

•        Project management of the foundations of the new business team and the initial business development pipeline, tracking parallel workstreams across regulatory readiness, registration, corporate security, vehicle compliance, demonstrator vehicles, integrator and teaming relationships, industry events, BD intelligence tooling, and grant funding.

•        Navigate the Mercedes-Benz corporate structure to identify and engage the appropriate internal stakeholders across all relevant entities and business functions in North America and at headquarters, building strong working relationships to ensure seamless progress across workstreams.

•        Interface with relevant internal stakeholders to align the business team's project-management cadence, milestone framework, and reporting standards with established Mercedes-Benz practices.

•        Organize, schedule, and run the cadence of meetings that holds the business team's plan together: weekly stand-ups, monthly leadership reviews, internal stakeholder syncs across departments, and quarterly business reviews with senior leadership.

•        Manage timelines and deliverables across all workstreams — milestone tracking, decision log, risk register, and an integrated dashboard reporting against published KPIs.

•        Help develop and use the business team's AI tooling stack as it comes online for daily productivity, capture-intelligence platforms, AI-assisted document and proposal-asset generation. The tooling is still being built out; willingness to learn and contribute matters more than pre-existing expertise.

•        Track and report progress across all business team workstreams through integrated KPI dashboards, milestone tracking, decision logs, and risk registers; conduct variance analyses, coordinate corrective actions with stakeholders, and provide concise executive updates on progress, risks, and opportunities.

•        Develop and implement effective action plans to address deviations, working collaboratively with responsible departments to ensure buy-in and commitment.

•        Proactively engage with responsible departments to understand challenges, identify potential roadblocks, and co-create solutions, acting as both a challenger and a supportive resource.

•        Facilitate open communication and alignment between different departments, fostering a collaborative environment to ensure a coordinated and effective approach to strategy execution.

•        Identify and escalate potential risks and roadblocks to strategy execution in a timely and constructive manner.

•        Coordinate the broader execution model around the program including potential interns, graduate capstone projects, and outside consultants to maintain a lean and capital-efficient operating posture during the business team's startup phase.
