THE OPPORTUNITY
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Manager Credit (Retail, Wholesale & Corporate) to join our highly skilled Credit Operations team. JOB OVERVIEW
This role is responsible for leading, coordinating, monitoring, managing, and reporting on the Mercedes-Benz Financial Services South Africa (MBFS SA) Credit portfolio for both Retail and Wholesale sectors. The primary goal is to ensure sound credit decision-making, strong portfolio performance, and robust risk governance, adhering to MBFS SA credit policies, risk appetite, Delegation of Authority, and KPI targets. The role also involves close collaboration with MBSA, Agents, internal stakeholders, and external service providers to facilitate sustainable growth and an efficient customer/agent experience, without compromising risk or customer outcomes.
KEY TASKS:
Lead Credit Operations & Risk Management:
Lead and develop the Credit Team, fostering a high-performance culture.
Drive continuous team development and stay updated on market and regulatory changes.
Ensure optimal credit decisioning capacity, service levels, and customer experience.
Oversee comprehensive fraud risk management (Retail & Wholesale), including investigations and controls.
Ensure consistent and timely e-KYC validations and remediation.
Manage credit bureau listings, dispute resolution, and regulatory compliance.
Ensure agreed turnaround times and service levels are consistently achieved across Retail, Wholesale and Corporate credit decisioning.
Credit Portfolio & Governance Lead:
Manage Retail and Wholesale credit portfolios, monitoring risk and reporting insights. This includes oversight of Corporate Business facilities, limits and ongoing credit performance.
Ensure consistent credit decisioning, quality assurance, and policy application across all segments.
Implement best-practice credit governance for Wholesale & Corporate, including reviews and covenant tracking.
Oversee Wholesale floor plan/stocking controls, audits, and reconciliation.
Lead credit-related projects and change initiatives from definition to implementation.
Manage Global Product Database (GPD) governance for credit products, parameters, and rules.
Support credit strategy, continuous improvement, and policy/process enhancements.
Operate within Delegation of Authority, escalating exceptions and engaging second-line support.
Stakeholder Engagement & Governance:
Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including MBSA and Agents.
Manage regulatory queries and complaints, ensuring timely responses and remediation.
Promote a strong control environment, adhering to policies, data protection, and AML/KYC.
Oversee supplier/service provider management for credit operations.
Prepare and present credit packs for governance forums, managing exceptions and post-approval conditions.
Represent Credit in cross-functional forums and contribute to governance and risk committees.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE:
Expertise in credit lending principles and operational best practices across Retail, Wholesale, and Corporate Business.
Strong understanding of relevant credit legislation (NCA), AML/KYC, POPIA, and conduct risk.
Proven ability to motivate, inspire, and develop teams, with strong judgment under pressure.
Mindset for operational excellence, process discipline, and continuous improvement.
Customer and agent-centric approach balanced with robust risk standards.
COMPETENCIES:

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree (NQF Level 7) in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related qualifications.
Minimum 5 years' experience in financial services, ideally in vehicle and asset finance (Retail Credit, Wholesale agent finance, Corporate Business credit).
NCA accreditation (or ability to obtain within an agreed timeframe).
Wholesale/Commercial credit training/experience advantageous.
Leadership and people management training advantageous.
