Objective of job 

• Work on the development or localization of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars in the field of Interior Lighting (e.g., Ambient Light, Reading Lamps, Small White Lamps, etc.) in RD China
• Develop both electrical/electronic (EE) hardware and optical/mechanical design for Interior lighting system together with suppliers in China, verify results in collaboration with R&D headquarter in Germany
• Function definition: define, develop, and refine the complete functional architecture of the ambient lighting system, including normal ambient lighting (LIN), active ambient lighting (CAN/CAN FD), and basic interior lighting. Ensure functional clarity, system consistency, and seamless integration across lighting subsystems
• System architecture design: lead the design and implementation of the ambient lighting system architecture, delivering a scalable, high‑performance, and maintainable system framework that supports future expansion and long‑term system evolution
• Monitor, coordinate and drive to successfully and timely reach the given project goals with the relevant cross functional teams 
• Support change management and ensure the parts maturity & required delivery for each milestone of responsible carlines, take the lead for issue diagnostics or troubleshooting during production in local BBAC plant

Main tasks 

Main task is to integrate in our cross-functional team which forms an interface between German headquarter of research and development, local suppliers and the Beijing-Benz plant. Your diverse tasks and responsibilities include the following:

• Develop China-specific parts from scratch, or manage part localization projects and suppliers from design-freeze to PPAP part release with full functional compliance
• Evaluate and verify supplier testing results and part maturity, ensure part readiness according to project milestones
• Assist pilot runs, tryouts and series productions of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars at the local production plant with technical support
• Responsible or support system & vehicle level testing and the relevant release activities
• Work together with cross-functional departments like RD Germany, product planning, quality and logistics, set up project milestones as well as coordinate activities to strive for timely completion as scheduled
• Support of the on-time introduction of local and imported China-specific parts for current & future Mercedes-Benz carlines in China

Qualification

Education

• Bachelor’s degree or above in automotive engineering relevant majors (e.g. automotive, mechanical, electrical)

Experience

• Minimum 5 years’ working experience in OEMs or comparable experience from suppliers
• Proven work experience in Interior Lighting field, including Ambient Light optical & mechanical design, validation, component development and localization, CAD, EE diagnostics & troubleshooting and overall vehicle EE testing (incl. CAN FD/Ethernet bus measurement).

Specific Knowledge

• Chinese native speaker with fluent English language skills, German language is a plus
• Strong knowledge and experience in Interior Lighting mechanical, optical, and familiar with EE architecture
• Computer skills mandatory, familiar with NX, Smaragd, etc.
• Excellent skills of communication and diagnostic protocols, good experience with Vector toolchain (e.g. CANoe)
• Excellence skills of cross function project management, follow-up of program timing, process, task execution
• Teamwork spirit, self-responsible working attitude and initiative, structured working styles
