The Section Lead – Overall Vehicle Design for Platform and Architecture is responsible for the technical and line leadership of the Overall Vehicle Design and Architecture section, covering platform and multi-derivative vehicle architectures. The role ensures the definition, governance, and implementation of robust overall vehicle and platform architectures, guaranteeing optimal geometric integration of all vehicle systems, modules, and components into scalable, competitive, and brand-consistent vehicle concepts. As the central architectural authority and moderation hub, the Section Lead steers the development and continuous maturity of the Digital Mock-Up (DMU) across all development phases, ensuring compliance with Mercedes-Benz Development System (MDS) milestones and requirements.
In addition to personal technical responsibility, the role leads, develops, and evaluates a team of experts, ensuring consistent architectural decision-making, methodological excellence, and high-quality delivery for the Chinese market while aligning with global Mercedes-Benz platform strategies.
Qualification
- Master’s degree or PhD in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field.
- >10 years experience in Overall Vehicle Design, vehicle packaging, or platform architecture.
- Proven experience with platform and multi-derivative architectures.
- Demonstrated role as technical authority in complex, cross-functional decision-making.
- Deep system-level understanding of complete vehicle domains and their interactions.
- Strong experience with DMU-driven development and virtual validation.
- Solid knowledge of MDS, crash, homologation, manufacturing, and service requirements.
- Excellent moderation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience in technical leadership and performance evaluation of expert teams.
