The Section Lead – Overall Vehicle Design is responsible for the technical and line leadership of the Overall Vehicle Design section, ensuring the coherent integration of all vehicle systems and disciplines into a consistent, balanced, and brand-compliant overall vehicle concept.
The role governs overall vehicle geometry, system integration, and maturity management across all development phases, ensuring that functional, aesthetic, ergonomic, cost, quality, safety, manufacturing, and service requirements are optimally balanced.
As the central coordination and moderation function for overall vehicle topics, the Section Lead ensures transparent decision-making, robust Digital Mock-Up (DMU) maturity, and milestone-compliant delivery according to the Mercedes-Benz Development System (MDS).
In addition, the role carries line management responsibility for a team of Overall Vehicle Design experts, including performance evaluation, capability development, and workload steering, while acting as the technical reference point for vehicle-level decisions within RD China.
Qualification
- Master’s degree or PhD in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- >10 years experience in Overall Vehicle Design, vehicle integration, or vehicle packaging.
- Strong track record in vehicle-level system coordination and cross-functional decision-making.
- Deep understanding of vehicle systems and their interactions across development phases.
- Advanced experience with DMU-driven development and virtual validation.
- Solid knowledge of MDS, crash, homologation, manufacturing, and service requirements.
- Proven ability in technical leadership and performance evaluation of expert teams.
Strong moderation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
