Cost Engineer Electrics / Electronics
Tasks

Do you want to combine technology, cost transparency, and the future of vehicle electronics in one impactful role? Join our Electrics / Electronics Cost Engineering team and help turn technical insight into smart, competitive, and sustainable cost decisions for key vehicle components.

In this role, you will be at the interface of engineering, purchasing, suppliers, and product strategy. You will evaluate electronic components such as control units, wiring harnesses, sensors, actuators, and related assemblies, using your technical understanding and analytical mindset to create transparency, challenge assumptions, and support better business decisions.

How You Will Contribute

·      Create transparent bottom-up cost calculations that reveal the true cost structure of electrical and electronic components such as control units, wiring harnesses, sensors, actuators, and comparable assemblies

·      Analyze requirement specifications, technical drawings, and CAD data to define realistic target costs and uncover key cost drivers

·      Develop reliable reference calculations that give Purchasing, Engineering, and management a strong basis for sourcing decisions, price negotiations, and technical evaluations

·      Shape target costs for sourcing scopes and contribute to cost-optimized, technically sound product concepts from an early stage

·      Collaborate closely with Purchasing, Development, Quality, and other partner departments to challenge supplier quotations, understand cost drivers, and identify optimization potential

·      Equip Purchasing with clear, fact-based assessments of quotations, technical concepts, and supplier assumptions

·       Assess cost impacts in change management, including technical changes, component substitutions, and process adjustments

·       Contribute your expertise in technical discussions, supplier meetings, and cost workshops to help drive well-founded decisions

·       Evaluate electronics manufacturing processes such as printed circuit board assembly, soldering, testing technology, and housing production

·       Analyze key cost drivers, including semiconductors, printed circuit boards, connectors, housing, software and functional scopes, testing effort, and supply chain impacts

·       Turn competitive analyses into practical cost potential, product ideas, and technology benchmarks

·       Prepare clear technical and commercial decision papers

·       Take ownership of work packages, deadlines, and project coordination tasks in an international environment where your contribution has visible impact

·       Support procurement material assessments and supplier compensation evaluations:

o   Assess supplier compensation requests when negotiated volume assumptions have not been achieved

Evaluate supplier compensation requests when key negotiation assumptions have changed significantly, including material costs, energy, and labor

Qualifications

What You Bring

·      A degree in electrical engineering, electronics, mechatronics, automotive engineering, or a comparable qualification

·      A solid understanding of vehicle electrical and electronic systems, especially control units, wiring harnesses, sensors, actuators, and system architecture

·      Knowledge of the structure, function, and cost composition of electronic components such as printed circuit boards, semiconductors, connectors, housing, software and functional scopes, and test concepts

·      Familiarity with electronics manufacturing processes such as SMT/THT assembly, soldering, potting, assembly, end-of-line testing, and quality assurance

·      Experience in cost engineering, cost analysis, purchasing, development, or a comparable technical or commercial environment

·      Confidence in working with technical specifications, bills of materials, drawings, process parameters, supplier quotations, and calculation models

·      A strong analytical mindset combined with business awareness and the ability to translate complex technical topics into clear, practical recommendations

·      A proactive, solution-oriented working style, strong communication skills, and the confidence to collaborate across functions

·      Fluent spoken and written English; German language skills are very useful

What You Can Expect

·      A meaningful role in a future-oriented electrical and electronics environment where your analyses influence key vehicle components

·      The opportunity to influence cost, technology, and supplier decisions from an early stage and see the impact of your work

·      Close collaboration with Purchasing, Development, Quality, Production, and other international partners

·      Hands-on exposure to modern cost engineering methods, tools, and calculation approaches

·      Insights into international supplier, technology, and competitive networks

·      A varied working environment where technical expertise, analytical thinking, and entrepreneurial judgment create real value

Ready to make an impact? If you are excited by technology, cost transparency, and cross-functional collaboration, we would be pleased to receive your application and learn how you can contribute to our Electrics / Electronics Cost Engineering team.
