Advanced Vehicle Prototyping & Validation Engineer
Tasks

Objective:

Plan, evaluate, and execute prototype vehicle body modifications from digital concept to finished body-in-white. Assess modification feasibility using CAD and vehicle package data, define joining and assembly processes, prepare work instructions, fixtures, tools, and quality requirements, and ensure robust welding quality and safe workshop execution. Coordinate closely with design, body engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and workshop teams. Retain a strong innovation focus by rapidly realizing and validating new body concepts, materials, joining methods, and prototype solutions.  

1.    Assess prototype vehicle body modification requests using CAD models, package data, body structure, load paths, interfaces, accessibility, tolerances, and build feasibility; identify technical risks and propose robust modification concepts. 
2.    Develop complete body modification and assembly processes, including cut and join concepts, operation sequence, locating and clamping strategy, fixtures, tools, material requirements, work instructions, safety measures, and effort planning. 
3.    Lead and coordinate prototype body modification execution in the workshop, including part preparation, trial fitting, panel alignment, welding and joining, dimensional verification, rework, and final release of the modified body. 
4.    Prepare welding and joining readiness and quality assurance: define parameters, sample and verification requirements, inspection points, acceptance criteria, defect analysis, corrective actions, and process documentation to ensure structural and dimensional quality. 
5.    Convert innovative vehicle and body concepts into fast, testable proof-of-concept solutions; apply rapid prototyping and alternative materials or joining methods, and document validation findings for engineering decision-making. 
6.    Support innovation through supplier development, competitor benchmarking, and identification of patentable body modification, fixture, material, or joining solutions. 
 

Qualifications

 

Qualifications:

  • Education 
    •    Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Welding Engineering, or a related field.  

     

  • Experience 
    •    5+ years of hands-on experience in automotive body-in-white engineering, prototype body modification, body shop process planning, or joining technology, with proven experience in workshop execution, dimensional and welding quality, and technical problem-solving. 
  • Specific Knowledge
    •    Proficient in CAD-based body modification assessment, body-in-white structure, dimensional chains, datum systems, tolerance evaluation, and manufacturability review. 
    •    Capable of defining modification and joining processes, including work sequence, cut lines, panel preparation, positioning, clamping, fixtures, tools, and workshop work instructions. 
    •    Solid knowledge of resistance spot welding, MIG/MAG welding, brazing, riveting, adhesive bonding, and other automotive joining methods; able to prepare welding parameters, quality criteria, inspection plans, and rework concepts. Familiar with prototype supplier coordination, competitor benchmarking, rapid prototyping, and innovative materials and joining solutions. 
    •    Fluent in English.
