Job Overview:

Direct assembly production/maintenance and ensures cost effectiveness and consistency with prescribed quality, accuracy, and performance standards. Leading tasks and processes within the logistics Charleston that ensure quality, materials availability and quantity for the production program and ensure the goals of the division VAN. Takes ownership & responsibility by ensuring volume and costs goals, high quality standards are met, while providing a safe working environment for all employees. Responsible to manage and develop the strategy for all Assembly and Logistics operations to assure that company products, processes and procedures meet corporate standards, while meeting all legal and compliance regulations (customs, foreign trade, hazardous material, aviation safety). Ensures communication through shop floor meetings to managers and Group leaders to continue through cascading meetings to shop floor employees.

Responsibilities:

  • The management, motivation and development of staff using target agreements and performance appraisals, founded on our mission statement & corporate values, and provision of purposeful internal communications to achieve the agreed objectives.
  • Manage the overall daily performance of the Assembly shops to meet all targeted goals, including short- and long-term planning of financials, production, quality, safety, morale, and environmental matrixes.
  • Assist with developing a strategy for the overarching organizational unit and, building on this, develop and agree strategies for implementation, advance your own role and ensure implementation.
  • Plan, agree and manage the budget and headcount in accordance with key performance indicators.
  • Responsible for the implementation and improvement of all logistic plans including, but not limited to the following: material flow and carrier planning, packaging design, workforce planning and employment calculation, building and area planning, capacity planning for all existing resources such as staff, equipment and facilities, areas etc., production layouts/Create work statement/specifications for the allocation of external services.
  • Participates in Management meetings, and reports on Planning, Budgets, Production status, Quality, Safety, Morale, and environmental topics. Considers and ensures compliance of product-specific and plant-specific environmental concerns and government regulations
  • Participate in control circuits to optimize the international supply chain. Initiate, implement and monitor the optimization of national and international logistics processes in connection with the respective customer and the involved areas.
  • Ensure that all Group and local regulations, guidelines and works agreements, etc. that apply for the area of responsibility are complied with and are applied
  • Participate in the arrangement of contracts for supplies in connection with legal of and tax department
  • Oversees the development and implementation of new production technologies and ensures continued process improvements
  • Ensure the correct implementation of environmental tasks of the environmental protection Manual and adherence to demands for environmental protection guarantee and supervise.
  • Ensures the certification ability in co-operation with central departments according to the up-to-date valid standards of the quality management and environmental protection. Compliance and implementation of legal requirements of industrial safety in co-operation with the respective department.
  • Implements lean manufacturing concepts to achieve goals
  • Safeguarding of inventory transparency in supply chain and permanent stocktaking pursuit. Optimization of warehouse organization and technology and the use of resources.
  • Participates in regularly scheduled team meetings
  • Will perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Direct and indirect leadership of Assembly/Maintenance/Logistics Specialists, Group Leaders, Managers and 500 – 700 indirect reports.

  • Leads employees in line with organizational culture, values and guidelines; defines performance goals, conducts performance reviews; effectively communicates and engages employees to meet objectives.

  • Responsible for employee development and qualification.

Financial Responsibilities:

  • Manages budget and personnel allocation efficiently for the department.

  • Conveys budget distribution and cost saving processes to colleagues.

  • Responsible for OP budget planning.

  • Responsible for EA1, EA2, SGK, PMK, PMG cost planning.

  • Capital cost with shop managers.

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree. 

  • 5-8 years of experience in planning, development, and implementation of production processes and technologies.

  • 8+ years of experience in a leadership role; directing, training, mentoring, and developing personnel in a high demanding environment. 

Knowledge & Preferred Skills:   

·       Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects at the same time. Excellent management and problem-solving ability with highly developed communication skills.

·       Several years of experience in logistics, production or related task areas high corporate and strategic competence.

·       Extensive knowledge / experience in planning and implementing internal logistics operations and LEAN manufacturing. 

·       Ability to travel by air and/or car on short notice within the US and abroad, including weekends.

·       Ability to work during scheduled work hours, as well as overtime, including weekends.

·       Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate with all levels of management, executive/senior staff

·       Highly motivated self-starter; Team oriented; outstanding planning and proactive skills.

·       Knowledge of the German and / or Spanish Language is a plus.

Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC (“MBV”) is a plant in Ladson, South Carolina that assembles Sprinter vans for the U.S. and Canadian market under the brand Mercedes-Benz. The midsize Mercedes-Benz Metris vans are also reassembled at this location.

Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC has invested more than 500 million U.S. dollars in the new Sprinter plant, which officially opened in 2018. Today the MBV facility provides more than 1,600 jobs and supports at least 600 additional jobs in the region through its suppliers.
