In Mercedes-Benz Research and Development, India (MBRDI), we work together with teams in Daimler AG to bring out the best Driving Assistance/Autonomous Driving Systems into the market. Autonomous Parking Systems also is a subset of these systems. The various topics handled in the teams include Product Management of the sensors and ECUs, Software Development, Digital Validation and Tools Development for Measurement/Data Analysis. We have teams that work on cutting edge technologies in the AD/ADAS domain. The validation team is part of the Product Development team.
Mercedes-Benz has for years been a key driver of ADAS development and has repeatedly set the benchmark in autonomous driving. To this end, the Mercedes engineers use sensor fusion. The data from infrastructure, sensors, such as cameras, Ultrasound, Lidars and Radars, are intelligently combined and analysed to address various situations.
The Parking System in the Mercedes cars can detect parallel and end-on parking spaces on the driver and front-passenger, assists and enables automatic parking with automatic steering and braking interventions. Smartphone with the Remote Parking Pilot app enables controlling the entering and exiting of parking spaces and garages from outside the vehicle. The reversing camera and the Active Parking Assist PARKTRONIC help to reduce the risk of collisions with obstacles at the front, side and rear of the vehicle. The Rear Cross Traffic Alert can warn the driver or initiate emergency braking automatically if crossing traffic is detected when reversing out of a parking space.
The highlight is the recently launched Automated Valet Parking (AVP). Cars now proceed without a driver to their assigned parking spaces in response to a command issued by smartphone, without any need for the driver to supervise the manoeuvre. Automated valet parking marks an important milestone on the way to autonomous driving.
We use extensive validation methods to ensure our customers get the best quality products. We reinvent ourselves in this course and that is how we build superior products. In Mercedes, we believe in “The Best or Nothing”
