Job Overview:

This job will lead the implementation of the Global Asset Care (GAC) Maintenance Operating System in the Charleston Assembly Plant.  The main focus will implementation of the system in the Body Shop, but will work with Paint and Assembly for a common system.  The function will lead a team of engineers driving the standards for maintenance systems and supporting the maintenance operations team.  

 Responsibilities:
  • Define and implement the GAC target picture with priorities on culture and mindset change 
  • Develop training plans for engineers, maintenance technicians, and cell techs
  • Develop working system between the 3 levels of the asset care process.  Level 1 is the cell tech and owner/operator.  Level 2 is the Maintenance Tech.  Level 3 is the technology team (engineers).
  • Lead a team of maintenance engineers and specialists to support the Body Shop operations.
  • Focus on OEE and Technical availability improvement.
  • Ensure and update documentation of maintenance processes and work orders.
  • Be a strong team player to solve problems – work closely with production, maintenance, and engineering 
  • Create a long term road map for the Maintenance organization
  • Work with the Paint and Assembly maintenance teams on plant strategies and GAC systems.
     
Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering or similar. 
  • Minimum 5 – 8 years of relevant experience including leadership
  • Internal Mercedes-Benz candidates must have passed PV44
  • Maintenance and/or Maintenance Engineering in Automotive Body Shop preferred
  • Experience with Maintenance Operating Systems preferred

Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC (“MBV”) is a plant in Ladson, South Carolina that produces Sprinter vans for the U.S. and Canadian market under the brands Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner. The midsize Mercedes-Benz Metris vans are also reassembled at this location. 

Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC has invested more than 500 million U.S. dollars in the new Sprinter plant, which officially opened in 2018. Today the MBV facility provides more than 1,600 jobs and supports at least 600 additional jobs in the region through its suppliers. Representing an additional nearly $60 million investment, MBV Charleston was selected to be the first plant in Mercedes-Benz Vans global production network to produce the all-new eSprinter, beginning in the second half of 2023.   

More than 300,000 Sprinter and Metris vans have been assembled in North Charleston and delivered to destinations across the U.S. since 2006. In 2021, the plant celebrated its 15-year legacy of SKD production in South Carolina. The U.S. is the second largest market for Sprinter vans, after Germany.
