The Digital Mockup (DMU) Specialist Engineer is accountable for the end to end creation, governance, and validation of virtual vehicle models to ensure robust integration of systems and components prior to physical prototype build. The role ensures high data quality, structural consistency, and reliable virtual validation results across the vehicle development lifecycle.
Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the DMU Specialist Engineer acts as a technical authority for DMU methodology and vehicle level integration, driving early risk identification, resolving complex packaging and assembly conflicts, and influencing design, engineering, and manufacturing decisions. The role serves as a central interface between design, engineering, manufacturing, and global counterparts, contributing directly to optimized development timelines, quality, and cost efficiency.
Key responsibilities
• Own and lead the development, maintenance, and governance of complete digital mockups for vehicles and major subsystems using Siemens NX and Teamcenter, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and usability across development phases.
• Independently perform and steer advanced DMU analyses, including clash detection, clearance and tolerance analysis, and packaging validation, identifying critical integration risks at an early stage.
• Act as the escalation point for complex DMU and packaging topics, resolving conflicts between design intent, technical feasibility, assembly constraints, and manufacturing requirements.
• Lead and support virtual build processes, providing clear, solution‑oriented recommendations for data structure optimization, assembly feasibility, and integration robustness based on DMU findings.
• Translate DMU results into actionable insights for design, engineering, and manufacturing, actively influencing concept decisions and development trade‑offs.
• Prepare, consolidate, and present DMU validation results, risk assessments, and recommendations to project management and senior stakeholders, supporting milestone and release decisions.
• Define, continuously improve, and standardize DMU methodologies, workflows, and best practices, driving efficiency, reliability, and scalability across projects and platforms.
• Coordinate closely with global RD counterparts to align DMU standards, data structures, and validation approaches across regions.
• Ensure DMU readiness and quality in line with development milestones, supporting component, system, and vehicle releases from a virtual integration perspective.
• Act as a subject‑matter mentor and knowledge carrier for DMU processes, supporting capability development through guidance, reviews, and knowledge sharing.
• University degree in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• More than 7 years of proven experience in automotive DMU, including virtual validation, packaging analysis, and vehicle‑level integration in complex development environments.
• Advanced proficiency in Siemens NX and Teamcenter DMU, with demonstrated ability to structure, analyze, and govern large and complex digital vehicle datasets.
• Deep knowledge of clash detection, clearance analysis, dimensional concepts, and virtual build processes, including their impact on design, manufacturing, and quality.
• Ability to independently analyze complex integration challenges, identify systemic issues, and derive robust, vehicle‑level solutions.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, combined with a solution‑oriented mindset.
• High degree of self‑reliance and ownership, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results under ambiguous conditions.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills, including the ability to clearly present technical findings and recommendations to multidisciplinary and senior audiences.
• Professional presentation and documentation skills, supporting decision‑making at project and management level.
• Excellent command of English; German language skills are an advantage but not mandatory.
