Role - Deputy General Manager – Location: Bangalore, India
Role Overview:
The Deputy General Manager (DGM) – Transmission & eATS Software and Release Management is a senior leadership role responsible for managing end-to-end software development and release for powertrain and drivetrain systems, including electric Axle Traction Systems (eATS). This role entails leading high-performing engineering teams, driving delivery excellence, and ensuring strategic alignment with the broader vision of MBRDI and the Mercedes-Benz R&D network.
As a key member of the RD/IEE leadership team, the DGM will be responsible for ensuring software quality, stakeholder satisfaction, team development, process excellence, and business growth in the transmission and eATS domain.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Leadership
- Align team objectives with department and organizational strategic goals.
- Contribute to the development of organizational strategy, structure, and growth initiatives.
- Champion innovation and ensure long-term capability development within the team.
2. Project Delivery & Release Management
- Oversee the complete software lifecycle, including requirement analysis, development, integration, and release management.
- Ensure on-time delivery of high-quality software in alignment with project commitments and standards.
- Continuously improve processes to enhance delivery efficiency, technical excellence, and competitiveness.
3. People & Performance Management
- Lead a diverse team of engineers across multiple levels (L5–L9).
- Drive talent acquisition, workforce planning, capability development, and succession planning.
- Foster a high-performance culture through mentoring, coaching, performance management, and engagement initiatives.
4. Financial Management
- Manage departmental budget.
- Optimize resource utilization, ensure cost-effective operations, and contribute to strategic financial planning.
5. External & Internal Collaboration
- Represent MBRDI in global forums and ensure strong collaboration with international stakeholders (Germany, China, USA).
- Establish and maintain partnerships with academia, research institutions, and industry peers for business development and knowledge exchange.
6. Governance & Process Excellence
- Lead initiatives that reinforce compliance, safety, quality, and environmental sustainability.
- Implement process frameworks that promote efficiency, transparency, and adherence to Mercedes-Benz values.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering / Automotive Engineering or related discipline.
- Experience: 15–20 years of experience in automotive software development, specifically in powertrain and drivetrain systems.
- Proven leadership in managing full software development lifecycles in production environments.
- Successful track record in leading complex, multinational projects and engaging with global stakeholders.
- Expertise in project management, systems engineering, software architecture, and integration.
Skills & Competencies:
- Deep domain knowledge in powertrain, drivetrain, and eATS software development.
- Strong release management expertise with hands-on experience in production-ready software.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Leadership capabilities to manage large cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in English; working knowledge of German is an added advantage.
