Our Tuscaloosa County site is home to the production of Mercedes’ luxury SUV models, including electric vehicles. Just down the road in Bibb County, MBUSI has launched the production of high-performance lithium-ion batteries. Our two campuses are among the most advanced automotive manufacturing facilities in the world, with over 6 million square feet combined.

Purpose of the Position:

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for designing, leading, and managing all compensation programs for MBUSI and affiliated Vance/Bibb County locations across all team member levels. Oversee base pay, wage structures, bonus programs, and related systems, documentation, and job descriptions. Ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and corporate regulations by developing and maintaining control systems, supporting audits, and aligning policies with legal and internal standards.

 

Essential Functions: 

Optimize, lead, and implement the compensation strategy for Mercedes-Benz US International and other local locations including but not limited to the MBExtra, MBSLS, Battery Plant, etc.
Work with MBV General Counsel to determines the impact of changes in local, state and federal laws on internal policies and regulations.
Steer HR’s personnel planning process with local and international stakeholders.  Develop and oversee control systems to prevent or deal with violations of guidelines and internal policies. Participates in internal compliance testing and audits.
Lead the digitization of compensation systems for job descriptions, salary increases, bonus payments, and other monetary payments. Collaborate with respective IT/HRIS business partners to implement and maintain systems.
Train the organization on MBUSI’s compensation strategy, philosophy, new systems, and any changes to the program. Develop, create, and edit training and communication materials to provide to relevant stakeholders. Ensure all relevant employees are trained on corporate standards for compliance and integrity
Advise management and executive management on compensation practices and procedures. Propose and implement pay changes based on market circumstances and corporate policies. 
Consult and all levels of management regarding critical and complex decisions, e.g.: performance management, harassment, business conduct, terminations, restructuring, and HR policies, guidelines and practices.
Act as key contact to domestic and international business partners for all MBUSI compensation topics for local and/or outbound team members. 
Conduct annual salary planning analysis by reviewing market data and presenting recommendations based on findings to ensure internal equity and external competitiveness.
Evaluate jobs at MBUSI and maintain inventory database of market benchmarks for each job. Benchmark, classify, and reclassify jobs in collaboration with business partners as needed. 
Manage, calculate and administer all major compensation projects and milestones including but not limited to the following: Fall and spring payments and/or wage structure changes for production/maintenance team members, merit increases for administrative team members, long- and short-term incentive payments (Company Bonus, Performance Phantom Share Plan, Profit Share, SQDCM). 
Complete and submit salary surveys, reports, data files, analysis, etc. for internal and external business partners including consultants, auditors and government agencies. 
Ensure MBUSI compensation practices are in compliance with local law and corporate regulations. Maintain and update work instructions and regulations as needed. 
Calculate all salary offers for administrative team members and new hires. 
Update, maintain, create, and support job descriptions for all positions within the organization. Manage and act as the key contact for the job description database(s).
Develop and oversee control systems to prevent or deal with violations of guidelines and internal policies.

Participates in internal compliance testing and audits.

Perform safe work practices and participate in trainings and safety programs in a positive and proactive way by following safety rules, procedures, regulations, standards and laws.  Report all unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and injuries to management, including your supervisor, or the Safety Department. Work safely 100% of the time.

Establish systems and procedures to ensure that all staff is aware of and comply with regulatory requirements.
Support the coordination and implementation of new methods, content and processes for relevant variables with given objectives.
Prevent and deal with violations of guidelines and internal policies.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Experience and Necessary Skills all must be met in order to qualify for position.

 

Education: 

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Finance, Business Administration, Accounting or in a related area, and/or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Experience:

Relevant professional experience in the following area(s):

HR or financial function with experience in leading and implementing projects. Background in employment law/compliance.

Requirements for Job Levels

Entry Level: Co-op/internship and/or up to 2 years of relevant professional experience.
Experienced Level: A minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience.
Senior Level: A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience.

 

Necessary Skills, Certifications, etc.:  

Excellent Excel skills with the ability to perform VLOOKUPs, create and analyze pivot tables, write and calculate using a variety of formulas. 
Highly analytical with the ability to analyze data using Excel and other tools. 
Ability to communicate complex ideas and information to all levels of the organization from Production Workers to Executives. 
Ability to work within HRIS systems.  
Ability to work within and design SharePoint sites. 
General knowledge of local HR laws. 
Excellent presentation skills with the ability to create training documents and implement training to the organization. 

 

Preferred Skills:

Advanced Excel skills (writing macros, code, etc.)
JD from an Accredited Law School.
PeopleSoft experience. 
Workday experience.
