Job Overview:

Manages the safety, productivity, training, morale, and security of a Production Group.  Monitors production and meets established production and quality targets. Possesses strong expertise in multiple technical work areas. Directly responsible for Team Leaders and indirectly responsible for Team Members.

The Shift Coordinator monitor the operations of a shop and assume additional tasks in the absence of a manager and coordinate the day-to-day activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Acts as the technical and disciplinary lead of the group.
  • Oversees, organizes, and coordinates all work content of the group. Motivates, supports, develops, and challenges team members to their optimal potential.
  • Manages flow of communication to the team and to management
  • Drives continuous improvement for production processes, efficiency, product quality, environment, and ergonomics.
  • Identifies trouble areas and resolves issues.
  • Administer company policies and procedures.
  • Assumes ownership and accountability for personnel management: Responsible for evaluations/reviews, coaching, counselling, resource planning and team building.
  • Coordinates schedules and workflow for the team. Plans, controls, and approves vacation, employee shifts, qualifications, and schedules.
  • Provides feedback to all involved departments to improve overall performance of the plant.
  • Prepares reports based on data. Presents findings to management and others.
  • Introduces measures for positive development of employees.  Resolves complex employee issues.
  • Resolves issues that are varied and non-routine. May order materials and/or spare parts.
  • Facilitates and participates in regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Report disruptions, organize disruption management in accordance with the MBV escalation procedure

    • Act as first contact person for managers in case of any production interruptions, issues and other questions

    Facilitate and ensure shift handover between shifts. Responsible to ensure that all teams hand over to the incoming shift in an efficient manner.

    Act as liaison between managers and other Group Leads with regards to communication and reporting

    Manage major break downs and coordinate with Maintenance team to ensure the problem is solved and the line back up and running in the shortest possible time

    Ensures completeness of downtime tracking sheet

    Coordinates overall daily manpower within shift, as required to ensure stability and target achievement

    Holds teams and leadership accountable for their daily performance

    Ensure that the incoming shift is set up for success, buffers, downtime, quality etc. are to planned levels

    Ensures important information is cascaded to other Group Leaders

    May guide and mentor less experienced Group Leaders

    May manage additional small to mid-sized projects within shop

    Conduct and participate in team and group meetings

    All other duties, as assigned

     

Supervisor Responsibilities

  • Multiple team leaders reporting to the Group Leader
  • Responsibility for typically 30-50 associates in an automotive facility
  • Project management and work shop involvement
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma and 3+ years of Supervisory experience in a Manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field is desired
  • Internal Employees: Completed successfully PV-45 or currently fulfilling position of Group Leader

Knowledge and Skills

  • Automotive industry experience a plus.
  • Body Shop, welding, supervisory experience is a plus.
  • Highly flexible individual with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required.
  • Must have excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Computer skills essential, including strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Able to problem solve. Understands and applies "root cause analysis".
  • Prefer experience in welding technologies such as mig, mag, spot, and laser welding.
