Objective of Job:
- We are looking for a Drive System Concept Engineer to lead the definition of future electric drive system concepts for our next-generation vehicle platforms.
- The role focuses on translating market trends, supplier innovations, customer requirements, and internal Mercedes-Benz engineering standards into competitive, scalable, and cost-efficient drive system concepts.
- The engineer will work as the interface between eDrive components, E/E architecture, vehicle integration, testing, and internal/external partners. A key part of the role is to evaluate supplier technologies, benchmark market solutions, and prepare technical input for strategic concept decisions.
Task description:
- Define and evaluate future BEV drive system concepts, including architecture, integration level, HV system, charging concept, and key performance/cost assumptions.
- Analyze supplier technologies and market trends to benchmark external solutions against internal Mercedes-Benz requirements and future platform needs.
- Prepare technical RFQ content, supplier questions, evaluation criteria, and structured feedback summaries to support concept and partner decisions.
- Align drive system concepts with internal stakeholders across eDrive, battery, E/E, vehicle integration, testing, purchasing, and production.

Qualifications:
Education: University degree in electrical, mechanical or automotive engineering
Experience:
• In-depth understanding of electric drive system, powertrain architecture, HV system design and vehicle integration principle.
• Rich Experience with requirements engineering, concept evaluation, and technical benchmarking in drive system area.
• Deep knowledge on xEV powertrain system development process, HW and SW wise.
• Familiarity with high-voltage safety, functional safety, diagnostics, and software-defined vehicle trends.
• Basic understanding of system integration, testing, or validation of eDrive systems.
• Basic understanding of cost, industrialization, supplier development, and validation processes.
Specific knowledge / Key competencies:
• fluent written/spoken English, German benificial
• Strong system-thinking capability across vehicle, powertrain, HV, LV, E/E, and software interfaces.
• Ability to structure complex technical topics into clear concept alternatives.
• Strong analytical skills for benchmarking, KPI evaluation, and supplier comparison.
• Good communication skills for cross-functional and international collaboration.
• Proactive mindset with curiosity for external innovation and technology trends.
