Role Overview

As a BTV – Sunroof Engineer, you will be responsible for the development and series support of electrical and electronic (E/E) components related to sunroof systems for Mercedes-Benz vehicles. The role involves end-to-end ownership of components—from requirements definition and concept development to series production support—ensuring compliance with legal regulations, quality standards, vehicle integration requirements, and cost targets.

You will collaborate closely with global stakeholders, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to deliver robust, high-quality solutions aligned with Mercedes-Benz vehicle, module, and carline strategies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Development and series support of E/E components for Mercedes-Benz vehicles, ensuring compliance with legal regulations, production requirements, and project objectives related to functionality, quality, weight, and cost.
  • Creation and maintenance of requirements specifications for components, including integration of functional safety requirements.
  • Contribution to concept specifications and overall vehicle specifications.
  • Planning, control, and maintenance of development schedules, including component and software release versions, aligned with vehicle-level process milestones in coordination with Purchasing, Logistics, Costing, and Quality teams.
  • Budget planning and control for prototype and sample part deliveries.
  • Coordination with E/E system partners regarding system-level components and interfaces.
  • Acting as the primary technical contact for sunroof-related components within the carline project, with delegation to system partners or project stakeholders where required.
  • Ensuring consistent documentation of development progress within R&D systems (e.g., EPDM).
  • Supporting module strategy definition and participation in module group activities.
  • Participation in concept evaluations, design reviews, and validation activities, including B-sample testing.
  • Ensuring alignment of component packaging with overall vehicle design and architecture.
  • Validation of electrical parameters (operating current, quiescent current, follow-up times, compliance with on-board power supply standards).
  • Coordination and technical support for EMC measurements at vehicle level.
  • Supporting complete supplier management for both in-house and purchased parts, including localization support where applicable.

Supplier Management Responsibilities:

  • E-Level: Lead and control system and imposed-part suppliers with respect to development and production-related topics.
  • Q-Level: Manage supplier quality aspects related to development issues and resolution.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Strong experience in development and series support of E/E automotive components.
  • Solid understanding of vehicle E/E architecture, on-board power supply systems, and component integration.
  • Experience working with requirements specifications, concept development, and validation processes.
  • Knowledge of automotive development processes, milestones, and documentation systems.
  • Strong coordination and stakeholder management skills across cross-functional and supplier interfaces.
  • Proficiency in English for global collaboration.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with sunroof systems, body electronics, or comfort systems.
  • Exposure to EMC testing and validation at vehicle or component level.
  • Familiarity with Mercedes-Benz development tools and processes (e.g., EPDM).
